On March 17, 2010, as the new Webelos leader, I was able to help plan and pull of a fantastic blue and gold banquet. We wanted a Mexican fiesta theme with a taco bar (which actually was delicious!), pinatas, the works. It also happened to be on St. Patrick's Day so we celebrated with green also. It was also the 100 year birthday for the scouting program. So balloons and birthday cakes were a must. The three weeks prior to the celebration were spent with the boys making invitations and pinatas. Each group made pinatas. We (the webelos and bears) made the pinatas in our garage. What an interesting experience, to say the least! We made a turtle and a star. After the boys had put layers and layers of sticky, wet newspaper on the turtle, it was hard to keep the air in the balloon. The turtle popped and my cute friend Liz had to keep blowing him back up. After she left, I continued to keep in the air in him all night long. WHAT A PROJECT! He turned out cute, but not without a lot of stress. The scouts had a great time breaking the pinatas and gathering all the candy. We also asked the boys to bake and decorate a cake. Garrett was excited about this as one of his favorite shows on tv is Cake Boss. I really didn't have time to help him and actually thought about just buying a store bought cake, but he wouldn't go for that. He found a recipe and made the whole thing from scratch. I was so impressed! When it came to the decorating, we all helped out a little, but Garrett was still very much in control. The best thing about his LUCKY cake was that it didn't only look good, it really tasted incredible!
A fun night was had by all and all the preparation from everyone involved made it turn out just right.
